Two of Canada’s most popular premium travel credit cards have received significant welcome bonus updates today, with both the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite and CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite getting enhanced offers.

The biggest change comes from TD, which has increased the welcome bonus on the First Class Travel Visa Infinite to 160,000 TD Rewards Points. CIBC has also enhanced the Aventura Visa Infinite offer, adding another 15,000 Aventura Points opportunity and bringing the maximum bonus to 60,000 points.

For anyone considering a new travel card this fall, both offers are worth a closer look.

TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite: Up to 160,000 TD Rewards Points

The TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite has received a substantial boost to its welcome bonus, increasing the maximum from the previous 146,000 TD Rewards Points to 160,000 points.

The new offer is straightforward:

  • 20,000 TD Rewards Points after making your first purchase
  • 140,000 TD Rewards Points when you spend $7,500 within 180 days of account opening
  • First-year annual fee rebate
  • $100 annual TD Travel Credit when booking an eligible travel purchase of $500 or more through Expedia for TD
  • Birthday Bonus of up to 10,000 TD Rewards Points
  • 4 complimentary airport lounge visits through the Visa Airport Companion Program

The total welcome bonus therefore requires $7,500 in spending over six months, with the first 20,000 points coming from the first purchase and the remaining 140,000 points awarded after reaching the spending requirement.

At TD’s Expedia for TD redemption rate of 200 points per $1, the 160,000-point welcome bonus represents $800 in travel value. TD’s advertised first-year value is up to $1,400, when the points and other benefits are included.

How the TD offer compares

The previous TD offer, effective through August 31, 2026, provided:

  • 20,000 points after the first purchase
  • 126,000 additional points after spending $7,500 in 180 days
  • 146,000 points total

The September 1 update increases the second-stage bonus by 14,000 points, taking the total from 146,000 to 160,000 TD Rewards Points.

That makes the new offer particularly interesting because the spending requirement hasn’t increased. You still need to spend $7,500 within 180 days, but now receive 14,000 more points for doing so.

Get an Additional $140 Rebate Through FinlyWealth

There’s also an additional incentive for those considering the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite.

Until October 5, 2026, applicants can receive a $140 cash rebate through FinlyWealth when applying for the card through its referral offer. This is in addition to TD’s welcome bonus and first-year annual fee rebate.

The rebate effectively adds another $140 of cash value to an already substantial welcome offer. With the new 160,000 TD Rewards Points bonus, first-year annual fee rebate, and the $140 FinlyWealth rebate, the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite is particularly attractive for anyone who can meet the $7,500 spending requirement.

The FinlyWealth rebate is available until October 5, 2026, so applicants interested in the additional $140 should apply through the qualifying FinlyWealth offer before the promotion ends.

CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite: Up to 60,000 Aventura Points

CIBC has also enhanced the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite welcome offer.

The card now offers up to 60,000 Aventura Points during the first year, compared with the previous 45,000-point maximum.

The bonus is divided into three stages:

  • 15,000 Aventura Points after your first purchase
  • 30,000 Aventura Points when you spend $3,000 or more during the first four monthly statement periods
  • 15,000 additional Aventura Points when you have at least $5,000 in net purchases posted during those first four monthly statement periods

That means the full 60,000-point bonus requires at least $5,000 in net purchases during the first four monthly statement periods.

The card also continues to offer a first-year annual fee rebate, including the $139 primary cardholder fee and up to three authorized-user fees of $50 each. Other benefits include four complimentary Visa Airport Companion lounge visits and a NEXUS application fee rebate.

CIBC currently advertises the offer at up to $1,800 in value on its Aventura Visa Infinite offer page, while another CIBC promotional page that includes the additional Skip+ benefit advertises up to $1,900 in value.

The important change to the Aventura offer

The interesting part of the new Aventura offer isn’t an increase to the initial bonus. The first two stages remain the same:

15,000 + 30,000 = 45,000 Aventura Points

CIBC has added another 15,000 points for reaching $5,000 in net purchases during the first four monthly statement periods.

This makes the new offer considerably more attractive for applicants who can reach the $5,000 spending threshold.

It’s also worth noting that the additional 15,000 points don’t require another separate spending period. The $5,000 threshold occurs within the same first four monthly statement periods as the $3,000 requirement.

TD First Class Travel vs. CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite

With both offers now enhanced, the two cards present an interesting comparison.

The raw point totals shouldn’t be compared directly because TD Rewards Points and Aventura Points have different redemption values and programs.

For the TD card, 160,000 TD Rewards Points are worth $800 toward travel through Expedia for TD at the standard 200-points-per-$1 rate.

CIBC states that the 60,000 Aventura Points are worth up to $1,200 in travel value, although the actual value depends on how the points are redeemed.

Which Offer Is Better?

For someone looking for the largest headline welcome bonus, the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite is the clear winner with 160,000 points.

However, the Aventura Visa Infinite has a considerably lower spending requirement. You can earn the full 60,000-point bonus after reaching $5,000 in net purchases during the first four monthly statement periods, compared with $7,500 in spending over 180 days for the TD card.

The CIBC card may therefore be particularly appealing to applicants who don’t want to put as much spending through a new credit card.

The TD card, meanwhile, has a compelling combination of a very large welcome bonus, a first-year annual fee rebate, four lounge visits, a $100 Expedia for TD travel credit and the potential for a birthday bonus.

Bottom Line

September is shaping up to be a strong month for travel credit card welcome offers in Canada.

The TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite has returned to its 160,000-point high-water mark, while the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite has increased its maximum welcome bonus to 60,000 Aventura Points.

For TD, the key improvement is that the spending requirement remains at $7,500 while the bonus increases by 14,000 points.

For CIBC, the new 15,000-point tier makes the offer more rewarding for applicants who can reach $5,000 in spending within the first four monthly statement periods.

Both offers are available as of September 1, 2026, although credit card offers can be changed, withdrawn or extended by the issuers at any time.
